SOS President Tara Hutchins-Welsh accepts surplus school supplies from Dr. Sarah Hodges, Principal of Bransford Elementary in Colleyville. A big “THANK YOU” to the Colleyville schools for supporting the children living safely at SafeHaven!
This has been a very successful year for our SOS Back-to-School project! This year, our project actually started in April, thanks to our resourceful member, Laurel Harty. Laurel spoke to three different Colleyville-area schools last spring about our mission and obtained their agreement to give us their surplus school supplies. Dozens of trips were made by the Laurel-Tara-Patti team to the various schools to pick up donations that were then stored in Laurel’s garage for sorting. There were boxes and boxes of glue sticks, markers, crayons, books, spiral notebooks, comp books, learning tools, games, classroom posters, and other items . . . much more than we can list here! It took seven car and vanloads to get it all to the shelters. Thank goodness Bates Containers came to the rescue and helped us to deliver. We appreciate these schools so much as they have equipped the children at SafeHaven with a good start to the new school year! Our wonderful school benefactors are:
Dr. Sarah Hodges, Principal & Mrs. Lauren Vise, 2nd grade teacher
Mrs. Rebecca Smith, 3rd grade teacher
O.C. Taylor Elementary
