New SOS member, Celeste Johnson, and her business partner, Michelle Honeycutt, attended our November meeting. So inspired were they with our efforts, they immediately decided to put their business skills and connections to work in a donations drive to benefit women at SafeHaven. As the owners of Blinq Lash & Brow Boutique in the Arlington Highlands, these two go-getters put together a marketing package and launched a month-long Pajama Drive at their boutique, where clients and the public were invited to drop off a donation of pj’s. The drive culminated in an extremely well-attended media event at their location on December 1st, with TV Channels 5 and 8 in attendance, both of which carried the story on the news.
Total number of sleepwear sets gathered – an amazing 83! And along with the pj’s they arranged for a donation from the Kenyon Martin Foundation for $830, and another private donation of $825! The sleepwear was delivered to the Arlington shelter in time for the chillier weather. Thanks to the amazing efforts of Celeste and Michelle, many shelter residents will enjoy a cozy sleep for some time to come. “We decided we wanted to give back to the community in a way that helps women in a meaningful way, and we chose to become part of Mid-Cites SOS to accomplish this,” Celeste and Michelle told reporters.
We are so grateful Celeste and Michelle have joined SOS and thank them for their hard work to produce the wonderful results for the women at SafeHaven!
